What is Freemasonry?

Masons are builders.  In ancient times, they were a guild that possessed the special knowledge of geometry, materials, and physics needed to build structures that have stood the ravages of time.  They were masters of the plumb, level, trowel, square and compass.
Today, we are builders of men.  Our goal is to make good men better.  The tools of the Freemason are now symbols of this craft.  The plum represents uprightness in our lives and actions.  We meet upon the level, meaning that wealth and station hold no sway within the lodge.  With the trowel we spread the cement of brotherhood and unity.  The square demands that we be square (honest) in our actions with all men.  And the compass teaches us to circumscribe our passions; to be temperate.
Freemasonry is a philosophy, a way of life, a journey on which we hope to discover the hidden beauty designed into all the creations of the Grand Architect of the Universe.  We invite you to explore the brotherhood, query our members, and decide whether Masonry might fill a need in your life.
"Be at war with your vices, at peace with your neighbors, and let every new year find you a better man."
